Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy
The Waste and Resource Recovery Board has developed a Draft Tasmanian Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2022-2025. The Strategy identifies objectives to divert waste from disposal at landfill facilities, maximise resource recovery and improve waste management practices in Tasmania. The Board is required to develop a statewide Waste Strategy under the Waste and Resource Recovery Act 2022.
The Strategy has been released for public consultation and feedback closes on Friday 24 February 2023. The Strategy is an important feature of the Waste and Resource Recovery Act 2022 and will be consistent with the objectives of the State's resource management and planning system set out in the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 and applicable Ministerial directions.
Operational Plan
We are developing an Operational Plan for how we, as the Board, will work. The Operational Plan will include information on the manner in which the Board will meet the business and financial objectives of the Board within that financial year, and set out the budget of the Board (including estimates of its income and expenditure for that period).
The Operational Plan will also be consistent with the Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy.
Annual Reporting
We will also prepare an Annual Report for each financial year. The Annual Report will contain at least the following information and documents:
- A report on the Board's activities and performance for the financial year, with particular reference to the Board's objectives, functions and powers
- Particulars of any Ministerial directions given and in effect in the financial year and any actions taken by the Board in respect of those directions
- A summary of each waste strategy that was in effect for all or part of the financial year
- A summary of the operational plan that is in effect for the financial year
- The financial statements of the Board for the financial year
- A copy of the Auditor-General's report on those financial statements, as prepared and provided under section 19 of the Audit Act 2008
- Any information that the Minister has, by notice to the Board, required to be put in the report
